Project summary

Authorized on december 4, 2012, the Renard diamond project involves the mining of a diamond deposit. The project includes an open pit, a waste rock area, a tailings pond, a technical landfill, an ecocentre and an ore processing complex. The mine produces about 7,000 tonnes of ore daily. An airport has also been developed to transport employees of the mine and to transport diamonds. The total estimated lifetime of the mine is 20 years.

Since the official start of operations in october 2016, the project has undergone several modifications to its original certificate. The modifications authorized to the certificate of authorization can be consulted at the following link: http://www.environnement.gouv.qc.ca/evaluations/projet-sud.htm. Since the authorization of the project, requests for modification of the certificate of authorization have been issued or are being analyzed

  • Application to amend the global certificate of authorization (CA) (MODCA 1) to increase the rate of extraction and ore processing at the Renard Mine. The amendment of the certificate of authorization was issued on December 20, 2019.
  • Application to amend the global certificate of authorization (CA) (MODCA 2) for the environmental ans social monitoring program. The amendment of the certificate of authorization was issued on December 16, 2020.

Details on location

The Renard diamond project is located on the north shore of Lac Lagopède north of the Mistissini community. The Foxtrot property, on which the Renard diamond mine is located, is located approximately 200 km northeast of lake Mistassini, approximately 70 km north of the Monts Otish and approximately 360 km north of Chibougamau.
