Project summary
The Whapmagoostui Cree Nation and the Kuujjuarapik Northern Village have been using the same trench disposal site for solid waste since the 1950s. Two storage sites are also present near the communities, one accommodating metals and the other contaminated soils. The existing solid waste disposal site will soon reach maximum capacity and the relocation of the two storage sites is desired. This project involves the construction of a new solid waste landfill site, including the construction of an access road, the construction of two platforms that can accommodate metals and contamined soils. The lifetime of the facilities, depending on the management method selected, is estimated at 25 to 35 years.
Details on location
The proposed project is located in the community of Whapmagoostui on Category IA lands. The project is also located near the northern village of Kuujjuarapik.
