Project summary

KWERC plans to build a Hybrid Power Plant with an installed capacity of 3.0 MW of wind power. The Hybrid Power Plant Project is located at the southwestern end of Nunavik, on the edge of the Hudson Bay and near the mouth of the Great Whale River, on the outskirt of villages in the Whapmagoostui and Kuujjuaraapik communities. The project requires the installation of two wind turbines with a nominal capacity of 1.5 MW each. These wind turbines will be connected by a 25 kV interconnection line to a substation (to be built). A 4 kV interconnection line will link this substation to the existing power plant operated by Hydro-Québec Distribution. An access road will also be built. The objective of the project is to reduce the use of fossil fuels and GHG emissions in the region.
